Abstract: 

This workshop will teach important skills pertaining to the usage and administration of relational database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and Ingres. This course will provide an introduction to Structured Query Language (SQL). Important relational concepts such as data normalization and relational algebra will be covered. The syntax and examples for Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Manipulation Language (DML) will be covered. This workshop will also include coverage of indices, performance tuning, and referential integrity. Backup strategies, authentication schemes, and architecture will be examined. Specific and practical examples will be given at the end of each section to demonstrate the ideas presented. The attendee will be given a good understanding of the underlying concepts and practices that are important in information technology today.
