FAQ
Question: Why do you have releases?
Answer: The releases are so that your recorded talks have a clear legal status. This is for your projection, to protect FOSSLC, and to protect your employer as the case may be. We recognize that signing a legal document is uncomfortable for some. It is our hope that it is recognized that you are more protected with the release than with no release at all.
Question: Why don't you use license XYZ? For example, the creative commons license, etc.
Answer: We used to use creative commons with the BY-SA clauses. We learned that some large companies especially, and some individuals do not feel comfortable signing a release form that does not narrow the scope of which talk(s) at which specific event, on a specific day, and what *specifically* FOSSLC can do with the talks. Thus we've decided to use the release form you find here rather than forgo some of those great talks. While this release does narrow what FOSSLC can do with the talk, we feel it is still sufficient to accomplish our mandate.
Question: What is FOSSLC's mandate?
Answer: FOSSLC is an incorporated non-profit organization that exists to provide educational material, community building, and business development involving open source technologies. We strive to perform this function in a vendor neutral environment that is safe and encouraging to newcomers.
