Event Description

The Free and Open Source Software Learning Centre (FOSSLC) will be hosting a conference on May 13, 14, and 15 at Algonquin College, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This event will bring together industry, academia, government, and community to learn about open source. Over 40 talks during the conference will cover technical, legal, and business aspects of open source use in private industry, community, and government. This event is relevant to technical and non-technical audiences. This event is relevant to all industries as 85% of businesses already use open source today. Talks will be a mix of skill levels with emphasis on approachable material suitable for beginners making this an excellent learning opportunity.

We have chosen themes to encourage cross pollination of ideas and talent.

Themes:
1) Education using open source software
2) Business and ecosystem development using open source principles
3) Developing open source software
4) Developing using open source software
5) Legal issues including DRM, Case law, intellectual property
6) Open source in Government

Workshops

There are two 3 hour workshops being offered on May 12, 2009. Registration includes food, drinks, a t-shirt, and a bag. They will take place in Algonquin College's P Building, room 308.

The workshops are:

9am-12pm - Crash course in Drupal - Cost $25 USD - Register
1pm-4pm - Crash course in SQL and Relational Databases - Cost $25 USD - Register 

Speakers dinner

You can optionally attend the speakers dinner to network with speakers, sponsors, and other VIPs - Cost $35 USD - Register

For those registered - the speakers dinner is at 131 Cooper at Dantessa Italian Restaurant 18:30 start on May 13th.
